Registered Acupuncturists in British Columbia have between 3 -5 years of education focused on learning Acupuncture and TCM as a broad field of medicine.

Acupuncture is often combined with motor point needling and IMS (intramuscular stimulation) techniques to “reset” affected muscle fibers. This teaches the body to maintain balance between its opposing muscle groups, maintain strength and tone of muscle, as well as open the nervous system circuit to maintain optimal functioning and range of motion. This combination of styles utilizes both traditional and modern anatomical based applications. When these techniques are performed correctly by a licensed acupuncturist with this specialized training, it yields instant results in improving range of motion and can release patterns of chronic tension, improve circulation and release trapped nerve fibres to restore optimal functioning.

Many in the west are quite familiar with Acupuncture's capacity to effectively treat pain and injuries, but did you know there's a large body (and growing!) of evidence that supports the use of acupuncture for a much wider range of health ailments, such as:

-anxiety, mood swings
-digestive disorders such as IBS, abdominal pain, acid reflux
-women's health concerns like infertility, painful periods, irregular periods and menopausal concerns
-all sorts of other things, often the things that mainstream medicine may not have a great solution for end up being something Acupuncture can really help with!

Some Registered Acupuncturists opt for more in depth education into Traditional Chinese Medicine and have an additional license to prescribe and dispense Chinese Herbal Medicines in addition to practicing Acupuncture. This expands the scope of the practitioner to be able to treat most of the common (and many of the very uncommon!) health concerns people face. The unique framework that Chinese Medicine uses, can provide new solutions to health issues that western medicine may not be able to help with, it also combines well with western medicine so that patients can achieve greater health potential.

Massage therapy is the manipulation of the soft tissues of your body — muscle, connective tissue, tendons, ligaments and skin. The massage therapist uses varying degrees of pressure and movement.

Massage is generally considered part of integrative medicine. Medical centers are offering it more and more as a treatment along with standard treatment. It may be used for a wide range of medical conditions.

Studies of massage benefits have found massage can:
Help reduce stress
Lessen pain and muscle tension
Increase relaxation
Improve immune function

Your therapist will work with you to ensure the style and pressure depth of your treatment is comfortable and appropriate for your condition.

Deep tissue massage is a massage technique that’s mainly used to treat musculoskeletal issues, such as strains and sports injuries. It involves applying sustained pressure using slow, deep strokes to target the inner layers of your muscles and connective tissues. This helps to break up scar tissue that forms following an injury and reduces tension in muscle and tissue.

Deep tissue massage techniques are used to break up scar tissue and physically break down muscle "knots" or adhesions (bands of painful, rigid tissue) that can disrupt circulation and cause pain, limited range of motion, and inflammation.

Hot Stone Massage

The treatment uses the basic principles and movements of classic Swedish massage, but utilizes hot rocks to help relax the muscles and get a deep massage with less direct pressure being applied. Swedish massage is characterized by, among other things, very long strokes, with deep pressure, and is intended to help with overall circulation. Hot stone massage makes use of these same long strokes, but instead of using their hands, the practitioner holds specially heated rocks to transfer heat to the recipient.
Helps relieve muscle tension and pain
Heat has long been used to ease muscle tension and pain. It helps increase blood flow to the affected area.
Reduces stress and anxiety. Promotes sleep.
The heat helps induce the relaxation response

Graston Technique Therapy

Graston Technique is a therapeutic method for treating disorders of the skeletal muscles and related connective tissue. The method employs a collection of six stainless steel tools of particular shape and size, which are used by practitioners to rub patients' muscles in order to detect and resolve adhesions in the muscles and tendons.

Prenatal Massage Therapy

Prenatal massage helps ease tension to help with relaxation and pain relief - while keeping mom and baby safe and comfortable. Prenatal massage can help alleviate pregnancy back pain and increase blood circulation, which can provide more oxygen and nutrients to the baby.

As a dedicated Chinese Medicine Practitioner, I have come to understand that the human body is a complex thing.

One of the underlying principles of Chinese Medicine is the recognition of patterns within complexity. Large amounts of complex information can be synthesized, and viewed with a sophisticated simplicity. A Chinese Medicine Practitioner can utilize the same methods of diagnosis, pattern differentiation method and treatment that Practitioners have been using for thousands of years, to treat that very same pattern often with profound results.

I graduated from a 4 year Acupuncture/Chinese Medicine program in 2005.

My passion to delve deeper into the roots of Chinese Medicine led me to pursue post graduate studies in 2012 with the Institute of Classics of East Asian Medicine in Portland, Oregon (www.iceam.org); which is an worldwide institution dedicated to the study and clinical application of important Chinese Medical texts from the Han dynasty. I am in the final stages of becoming a diplomat of ICEAM and will be continuing on to obtain fellowship status from this institute.

These Han Dynasty texts, (the Shang Han Lun and Jin Gui Yao Lue) are considered to be among the most important texts in Chinese Medicine history, influencing most of what has come after it. They are also practical clinical manuals which can be considered a system for treating nearly every possible health condition – and in spite of advances in Western Medicine – the fundamental reality is the human body has remained the same over the past few thousand years. The original author, Zhang Zhong Jing – is considered the grandfather of Chinese Herbal Medicine.

The core purpose for these studies is to gain a better understanding of the root principles of Chinese Medicine and Acupuncture, beyond the basics that are taught in Acupuncture and Chinese Medicine schools and back to the roots of this powerful medicine.

In addition to acupuncture, I prescribe herbal medicine, and have a fully stocked herbal pharmacy on site to compound individualized herbal formulas for each patient when needed. I use high quality concentrated herbal granules, which are both potent and convenient to take.
